The O-66 HMRV "Oppie" Recovery Vehicle is now in stock. It is a huge miniature. It weighs in at over 1/2 a pound and nearly 5 inches in length fully assembled. It is fair to say that this miniature was never intended to fit in a single hex.
The "Oppie", Short for "Oppenheimer", is interesting in terms of the Battletech game itself. Battletech Old Timers, like myself, would be shocked to learn that it breaks the old weight limit for vehicles. According to TRO 3O75 the HRMV Salvage Bed it weighs in at 150 tons. This shouldn't be much of a surprise considering the purpose of the vehicle. It is a salvage vehicle. It only makes sense that the bed be a heaver than the 100 ton mech it is going to salvage off the field. Since it easily fills two hexes one could argue that the bed only weighs 75 tons a hex.
The unit in front is the HRMV DeConAid Trailer. It is a separate unit. It is also a true trailer with no engine of its own. I find it interesting that the DeConAid "Trailer" is in front of the Salvage Bed. It looks quite the opposite. Appearances suggest that the DeConAid Trailer is actually the tractor or motive unit while the Salvage Bed definitely looks like a trailer. There has got to be a steering wheel in there somewhere if the DeConAid Trailer is leading the way.
I've done a full write on the wiki at Sarna.net. Read more about the role and stats of the Oppie in the battletech game on the O-66 HMRV "Oppie" Recovery Vehicle page.
